Ezekiel “Zeke’s” Exotic Lineage
When we received Zeke’s embark test results back, we were very pleased! We’ll share the obvious, important information that you would like to know when you are looking at getting a puppy that has come from Zeke. He is AKC registered and is 100% Siberian Husky.
One of the most interesting things we found was Zeke has a very rare and exotic lineage! The Embark tests look at haplogroups, which are groups of similar DNA sequences inherited from either the mother or father that can be used to trace the ancestral routes that dogs took around the globe to get to where they are now.
Zeke’s Maternal Haplogroup is C1, which is a very exotic female lineage! It’s more closely associated with maternal lineages found in jackals, foxes, and wolves, than with other dog lineages so dogs in this group seem to have a common male dog ancestor who mated with a female wolf many thousands of years ago! It made it outside of Europe through colonialism, but not as successfully as other lineages.
Zeke’s Paternal Haplogroup is A, a rare and interesting paternal line, most commonly found in Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Village dogs. “It seems plausible that this paternal lineage diverged within the last 10,000 years from a group arriving with the first Arctic explorers. The recent ancestors of dogs with this lineage actually allowed humans to survive in some of the most forbidding conditions on the face of the earth!”
