About Bi-Eyed and Parti-Eyed Huskies

One of the most common things that we get asked about and that people are looking for - Will my husky have blue eyes? - so let’s talk about it! We definitely get it! They are STUNNING and definitely get your attention! Blue eyes are the most common eye color for Siberian Huskies.

It’s possible for all species, including humans, to have two different colored eyes. The medical term for it is “heterochromia.” If you are looking for bi-eyed huskies or the rarer, parti-eyed, you may search for a while before finding what you’re looking for. Here are Halo Huskies, we specialize in UNIQUE eye and coat colors, so we have more than many other breeders.

Bi-eyed, or complete heterochromia, means that each iris is a completely different color. Most commonly, one is blue, and the other is amber or brown.

Parti-eyed, or sectoral heterochromia, refers to two or more colors in the same iris (flecks, marbling, splits)

There is an interesting comparison that can be made between Siberian Huskies and Wolves here. When wolf pups are born, just like huskies, they have blue eyes. However, wolves’ eyes do not stay blue. They inherit their parents’ eye color and change to amber, yellow, or green. Huskies’ eyes may stay blue or change to be bi-eyed or parti-eyed by 12 weeks old.

There are many Native American legends that address bi-eyed huskies. This breed is thousands of years old. At one time, some tribes considered them to be spiritual animals.

One legend believed the blue eye could see into heaven and the brown eye was to navigate earthly things.

Another legend says the blue eye is for looking deep into the ocean and the amber eye was for fire.

The parti-eye is said to see all things heavenly and earthly.
