Ruby’s Embark results confirming she is 100% Siberian Husky.

Genetic Health Summary

Embark testing shows that Ruby is not at risk for any of the genetic health conditions that they test for, including X-linked Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Day Blindness, GM Gangliosidosis, Degenerative Myelopathy, and 266 other genetic conditions! Beyond the genetic testing, we know Ruby produces healthy puppies, as we’ve seen her pups from multiple litters grow up happy, healthy, and thriving, including Halo Huskies’ Sire Zeke! You can read more about Zeke’s lineage and pedigree here on our website!

Maternal Lineage

The Embark tests look at haplogroups, which are groups of similar DNA sequences inherited from either the mother or father that can be used to trace the ancestral routes that dogs took around the globe to get to where they are now. Because Ruby is a female with XX-chromosomes, we can test and get genetic info from her maternal ancestral line.

This map helps to visualize the route Ruby’s ancestors took, traced through her mother’s ancestry.

Ruby’s Maternal Haplogroup is C1, which is a very exotic female lineage!

The C1 female lineage is unique and closely related to maternal lineages in wolves, foxes, and jackals, suggesting dogs in this group share a male dog ancestor who once mated with a female wolf. Though rare in most breeds, C1 is found in some German Shepherds, Dobermans, Peruvian Inca Orchids, and Pekingese. Widely distributed globally, it likely persisted in Europe at low frequencies and spread outside Europe through colonialism, though less extensively than other lineages.

Ruby’s maternal haplotype is C27, which occurs most commonly in German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, Labrador Retrievers, and village dogs from Peru and Alaska.
